Project Estimation—Why Are They Always Wrong, and How Can We Improve Them?

We make estimates every day. Whether it’s how long our commute will take during the morning rush hour or how long it will take to deliver a requested feature. In these cases, the idea is clear, and if it doesn’t work out, the discrepancy is usually minor. But when it comes to estimating an entire project, we can be way off the mark. That’s why we need to take far more factors into account and dig deeper. In this talk, we’ll discuss how to approach estimates with much greater confidence, and we’ll look at a few tricks and commonly overlooked time-wasters.
