What and how does the AI "think"? A revolutionary technology with our own flaws

Three years ago, I was in for a shock. I discovered that there is a technology that will very soon be able to write better than 90 percent of people. Not all people, but even better than 90 percent of those who make a living from writing. Large language models are the most fascinating and strangest technology to emerge in my lifetime. And in my lifetime, people have landed on the moon, launched the Internet, invented the cell phone, created the web, and sequenced the human genome. But large language models probably inspire my greatest wonder so far.
