Introduction to Service Workers and Advanced Caching
Annotation
There are very few frontend projects that wouldn’t benefit from a service worker. The advantages are clear—offline support, faster loading, smart caching, push notifications, and background sync. If a project doesn’t have a service worker, there’s usually a very good reason for it.
On the other hand, setting up and using service workers correctly may seem complicated at first glance—perhaps even daunting.
We’ll cover all of this—focusing more on principles and best practices, leaving specific implementations aside, and addressing common concerns.
We’ll share practical experience from production: what service workers can do, what pitfalls and real-world impacts to expect, and why it’s worth investing time in their implementation.
This talk sets the stage for Artem Zacharenko, whose presentation follows.
